Sydney to London
The Long Ride Home

a trans-hemispherical bike ride in support of Children With AIDS Charity
by Cass Gilbert

CASS LEFT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE ON MONDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 9TH, 1998, AND SO STARTED 'THE LONG RIDE HOME'.
'It is good to have an end to journey to, but it is the journey that matters in the end.'
Ursula Le Guin

'A good traveller has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.'
Lao Tzu, 520 BC

Cass is off on another marathon cycle ride, this time from Turkey to North West China through some of the most untouched and magnificent country on the planet. And this time, he's on a tandem! Read all about it at his new site, Tandem to Turkestan, where he and his tandem partner Rosal Fischer will be posting new photos and writing.

In memory of the innocent victims in New York and Washington.

The destruction of the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon by suicide attacks, claiming thousands of lives. A dark shadow is cast across the Islamic world. Having been inundated with kindness during my travels in the Middle East and Iran, I would just like to stress how the vast majority of those I met utterly condemn such atrocities. Travel teaches you to appreciate the diversity of our world, and it fills me with sadness to be confronted by such intolerance.
