Airlie Beach, December 23rdExtract from e-mail from Cass to Simon Carloss.
Just checked my e-mail whilst nestling in some shade from the heat of the midday sun. The wonders of modern technology! Hope this catches you before your Christmas break. Writing a piece for RoughNews sounds great. A big yes!
Funnily enough, it was just last night that I stayed at Leaf's house in Mackay and was treated to a delicious feast and comfortable bed!
Glad you like The Long Ride Home site. Everyone at home has put a lot of work into it. I'm staying at Airlie Beach, whilst I pause to sample Christmas celebrations Aussie style!
The last couple of weeks have been tough, pushing North along the remote coastal road into the Australian summer. Not the best bit of timing. It's been a case of getting up with the sunrise to beat the heat, taking a long siesta at lunch and then collapsing in the tent at dusk! In fact, by the end of January, I'll be in Indonesia, which will tie in neatly with article covering the first 3 months. Cycling has been tiring at times, but there's always the chance to stop and have a yarn with one of the locals. It's interesting to see people's rections as I amble by on the bike, shiny with sweat and smiling away! Australia itself has been incredible. Inspiringly beautiful, it is a place that I know I'll return to and explore further.
The RoughGuide has been a handy companion, though sadly now been sliced down to the last section. I have to be ruthless with weight and I'm constantly devising new weight loss programs. (for Possum, that is!)
I hope you have a Cool Yule and a Merry New Year,
All the best,
Cass and Possum.
ps Thanks for the quote!
